No nobodies

Posted by: abelle   in let's 'weigh' awhile

Last December, a friend gave me a diary/book – Our Daily Bread 2008 diary. Every page corresponds to each day of the year, and in each day, a bible passage was written so there is one good read for every day of this year. In today’s page, it is a simple story that will make us think of all the persons that are part of our lives, how each of them was able to shape the person we are now. These people may not only be our friends or family members. They may also be some strangers who pass by our lives everyday. They may be our teachers back in grade school, our co-workers, our neighbors or some people, well, we like the least.

I seldom go to church (shame on me), but I pray a lot and strongly believe in God and in Jesus. The story I am sharing below is not only for churches with different beliefs, but also for people with different views – political and otherwise. The people here in the Philippines are now divided by their own political views, Americans have their own which are more commonly known as Barrack Obama and Hilary Clinton, while other countries have their own issues as well. So while other Filipino bloggers talk about the inter-faith rally in Makati today, I will be here sharing this to all of you. This, I think, is what the Filipinos need today – help each other.

No nobodies
Those members of the body which seem to be weaker are necessary. – 1Corinthians12:22

A visitor was being shown around a leper colony in India. At noon, a gong sounded for the midday meal. People came from all parts of the compound to the dining hall. All at once, peals of laughter filled the air. Two young men, one riding on the other’s back, were pretending to be a horse and a rider and were having loads of fun.

As the visitor watched, he was told that the man who carried his friend was blind, and the man being carried was lame. The one who couldn’t see used his feet; the one who couldn’t walk used his eyes. Together they helped each other, and they found great joy in doing it.

Imagine a church like that – each member using his or her own strength to make up for another’s weakness. That’s what should be happening in every congregation of believers. Paul likened spiritual gifts to various parts of the human body. Eyes see. Ears hear. Hands work. Feet move the body forward. All are essential. And when each fulfills its function, the whole body benefits.

All of us have weaknesses, but we also have strengths. We are all different, but God has given each of us at least one gift to use for the good of the church. We need one another. In Christ’s body, there are nobodies. – Dennis De Haan

God can take a lowly vessel, Shape it with His mighty hand,
Fill it with matchless treasure, Make it serve a purpose grand. – Bosch

There is no such thing as insignificant service for Christ.

Too busy to write

Posted by: abelle   in the life of an ordinary earthling

The past few days, I’ve been too busy to write anything here and in my other blogs. I’ve been busy bloghopping here and there, looking for those little buttons everybody’s putting on their websites. The result? I was able to list this site to some blog directories out there, and even made new friends in some blog networks. I am also drafting something to put on my ‘About the author’ page so you will be able to get a clearer view of who I am and what I do. Hopefully, I get all these done while my husband is away for work. He won’t be home until Friday so I have lots of time in my hand right now. Plus, I have to get more things done here because our son’s exams will be on Thursday and Friday. That means we will be preparing and reviewing notes by Wednesday – translation: little time for myself again. So just bear with me, guys. I’m still trying to make this site beautiful. :)

The Images of a Mother

Posted by: abelle   in parenting101, relationship101

4 YEARS OF AGE - My Mommy can do anything!

8 YEARS OF AGE - My Mom knows a lot! A whole lot!

12 YEARS OF AGE - My mother doesn’t really know quite everything.

14 YEARS OF AGE - Naturally, Mother doesn’t know that either.

16 YEARS OF AGE - Mother? She’s hopelessly old-fashioned.

18 YEARS OF AGE - That old woman? She’s way out of date!

25 YEARS OF AGE - Well, she might know a little bit about it.

35 YEARS OF AGE - Before we decide, let’s get Mom’s opinion.

45 YEARS OF AGE - Wonder what Mom would have thought about it?

65 YEARS OF AGE - Wish I could talk it over with Mom.

boy running Last night just before going to bed, my son and I talked about today’s school activities. There will be no classes today to give way to the school’s Foundation Day activities. His class is among the others who will compete in the group dancing competition for grade school and high school departments, but he will not be there to participate. He just wants to watch. Because he already played in the basketball and the chess tournaments, he is allowed to not participate in the dance. As we were talking, he asked if I will come along. I said no and to my surprise, he excitedly cheered ‘Yes!’ I asked him why he seemed to be rejoicing knowing that I’m not coming. The answer was ‘Nothing, Ma.’

Why, oh why? He likes it more when I’m not around? Is this one of those signs that he is on his way to maturity and sends signals that he wants space? But he’s only 10 years old! :(

I spent the last two days exploring things for this website. I finally made the File Editor and the Theme Editor writable (whew!). I also added some little things to my sidebar. And do you see the icon beside my address on the address bar? I did the logo myself (good job, Abelle! - pats herself on the back) and was able to put it up there! (brilliant! 8) ) Thanks to FavIcon from Pics, now my website is world class ;) .

FavIcon is short for ‘favorite icon‘. You may use or upload your photo or a logo, it’s up to you. If you want to have one for your site too, click here and follow the step by step instruction (just like I did :D ).

Now back to the Senate . . . . .

How to Recognize a Gifted Child

   Posted by: abelle   in parenting101

It is important to recognize a gifted child in order to help promote his or her intelligence, curiosity and desire to learn. Most of these children are never recognized and so their potential is not developed correctly. A gifted child is not a genius and does not have to know everything or do things out of the ordinary, such as play the piano at the age of two or speak several languages at the age of three. They are children who are basically differentiated from the others in their ability to learn much faster and go more deeply into subjects.

Some of the characteristics of a gifted child are:

1. They generally walk and speak before their first year of age.

2. They tend to use very rich language and adult-like vocabulary.

3. They easily understand and remember the information they are given.

4. They generate a great quantity of ideas and solutions to problems.

5. They have a well-developed sense of humor.

6. They have a great deal of curiosity, which makes them question everything.

7. They usually worry about the problems in the world.

8. They adore reading.

9. They like complicated board games.

10.They are leaders.

11.They persevere (they concentrate on a task and persist until they finish it).

12.They have a high level of self-judgment, demand much of themselves, and tend to be dissatisfied.

13.They prefer to work independently and do not need much help.

14.They are vulnerable to the rejection of their classmates.

My other site is sick?

Posted by: abelle   in the life of an ordinary earthling

My other blog has been acting weird for the last couple of days week and its sending a bad signal to my advertisers. I don’t know if it’s dying or something because there’s no way for me to contact the host. All it says is ‘Server down. Sorry for the inconvenience’ and nothing more. Well, BlogRox, I’m knock knock knocking on your door! Go see a doctor now before it’s too late. I am afraid that all my posts will be gone forever (next month marks my first year of blogging there). That will really break my heart. So please, please, please get well soon NOW!

Me, me, me! smileywave

And what are my biggest accomplishments so far? Hmmm, let’s see . . . . .

1. I have a very sexy husband (hmmm, yummy, isn’t he? ;) ) Though he works abroad and is not here to celebrate with us, YM and webcam is enough. sexy papa

2. Our son, who calls himself ‘TEN-ager’ because of his age (he’s TEN years old) and is as handsome as his Papa. He is in a good private school, into sports and very sweet.

jeff

3. I have my own website already (yehey!)

4. Friends! Thanks for all your wishes - Anna, Imee, Shiella, Hedy, Maricel, Ellie and Remy.

5. A very close family - Lola, Mama, my 2 sisters, uncles, aunts and cousins.

I can go on listing the people dear to me and some material things that I have, but the bottom line is God is so good that He blesses me with so many wonderful things and adding another year to my life!
