Last night just before going to bed, my son and I talked about today’s school activities. There will be no classes today to give way to the school’s Foundation Day activities. His class is among the others who will compete in the group dancing competition for grade school and high school departments, but he will not be there to participate. He just wants to watch. Because he already played in the basketball and the chess tournaments, he is allowed to not participate in the dance. As we were talking, he asked if I will come along. I said no and to my surprise, he excitedly cheered ‘Yes!’ I asked him why he seemed to be rejoicing knowing that I’m not coming. The answer was ‘Nothing, Ma.’
Why, oh why? He likes it more when I’m not around? Is this one of those signs that he is on his way to maturity and sends signals that he wants space? But he’s only 10 years old!
