No break on sembreak

Posted by: abelle   in the life of an ordinary earthling

What am I up to lately? Well, although Monday marks the start of the one week sembreak, I had a busy week behind me.

Monday – I went to the GMA Kapuso Foundation warehouse again to help pack some more school supplies for children.

Tuesday – I did the laundry which I wasn’t able to do on my regular laundry Saturday.

Wednesday – I went to the warehouse again and packed, packed, packed some more!

Thursday – Jeff and I had a date at the Manila Zoo. I can’t remember when was the last time we went there because he was still small back then – 4years old perhaps?  Now, he just wanted to try out the zoo’s new feature - the horse backriding!

We were greeted by this wrinkled elephant.

Then we went ahead and looked for the horse.

How much is it worth?  Ride is cheap . . . . . (Php60.00 = less than $2)

This smile?  Priceless . . . . .

Then we went boating!

The little man of the house is rowing.

We’ll cross (under) the bridge when we get there ;)

That was our Thursday!

Friday – Volunteering can never be more fun than doing it with all your heart and with someone close to your heart. Jeff came along!

Sembreak.  The week that was ;)

We will, we will pack you!

Posted by: abelle   in the life of an ordinary earthling

Armed with my son’s shirt (I wasn’t able to do the laundry on Saturday so I need to borrow ;) ), I went to the warehouse on Saturday where the goods will be packed.  Volunteering for the GMA Kapuso Foundation is fun, but it sure is not easy.  But looking at these bags of goodies and school supplies for children for Christmas is priceless . . . . .

It’s a very fulfulling experience!  Actually, I was there again today.  And I will be there this whole week ;)

The UN Day celebration at school today was successful.

And by successful, I mean . . . . .

Jeff getting the Mr. Photogenic Award . . . . .

making it to the Magic5 . . . . .

and . . . . .

being the First Runner-up!

As for Sam, Jeff’s partner, though she didn’t make it through the elimination round for the talent on Monday, she was awarded Best in Sports Wear and was crowned Ms. United Nations 2008!

Yes.  That successful! ;)

And another reason to celebrate is I received a call this afternoon from GMA Kapuso Foundation and I was invited to do some volunteer packing of goods tomorrow.  One of my dreams just came true! ;)

The competition for the Best in Talent this year are among the girl participants only.  Last year, the boys were the ones who wowed the audience and the judges.  This is in connection with the UN Day celebration on Friday.  Participants from the Kindergarten to High School performed.  Some did a solo act, while others performed in group.  Sam, Jeff’s partner and the Ms. Greece candidate, danced to the tune of ‘Bleeding Love’.

That’s Jeff with his UN partner, Sam.  Please note the arm band ;)

And this is him with one of his friends.

Here’s the whole dancing group with Jeff seated wearing his ever famous arm band which was given by his father.

And the video I took of Sam’s group (of course, with my very reliable phone, Asus V-75).  Jeff is easy to spot.  Just look for the white arm band ;)

The school called this the ‘pre-talent’.  They are choosing which candidates are best to compete for the title ‘Best in Talent’.  Chosen candidates will be announced tomorrow and will perform again on Friday.  That’s when the judges will pick the winner.  I hope Sam gets in ;)

OOOPS:  I don’t know why the audio won’t play.  It’s playing here in my computer, but it doesn’t make a sound when uploaded.  Go ahead, throw tomatoes at me.  I deserve it :(

Here are some shots I took during the photo shoot this morning.  They were just taken using my camera phone, so please put your faces closer to your monitors to see clearly.  Translation:  Pa, I really need a new camera (that’s for my husband who always reads this blog). I was so close to taking home the photographer’s camera just to let my grandma and the others here at home see Jeff ;)

Here is Jeff together with his partner, Sam.  She’s half-Filipino, half-American.

And this one was just before we leave the studio

And that’s it for the casual wear! ;)

Going Greek

Posted by: abelle   in news from downtown, the life of an ordinary earthling

I am going out today to check the costume stores for anything Greek. I’m looking for a Greece traditional/national costume for Jeff. He is representing Greece in the UN celebration the school is holding on Oct24. We already bought the clothes he will wear for the photo shoot tomorrow for the casual wear. After the truck load of school projects, this is next. Plus the rehearsal on Saturday, which happens to be my laundry day. Plus the field trip on Oct18 – another Saturday, another laundry day. Plus the exams the week after that. Then the UN. Oh! And there’s also the baptismal of a friend’s baby on the 26th where I am going to be the oddparent godparent. Aaarrrggghh! What an October! I can’t wait for the sem break on the last week of this month.

Anyway, I have to get going now because I promised Jeff to bring him his lunch to school today. We agreed that I will just wait for him at the lobby to hand over his lunch box then I’m off to the costume shops. No, there’s no need for eyeglasses. Just hoping to find something today. Good luck to me! Bye for now, people! ;)

And speaking of eyeglasses, here’s a great find from Zenni Optical.  They have a huge selection of prescription eyeglasses for as low as $8.  Cool, isn’t it?  I found this one at their ‘New Arrivals’ section.  And there are more new frame designs available.  Go see for yourself!

And while I’m out, you may want to check this one out ;)

1. my own website (done on Feb02)

2. digital camera (I’m crossing this one out now because my husband and I agreed that we will buy this next year)

3. new pair of pants (at least 2) (done on June11)

4. a pair of sandals/shoes (done on Thursday, Sept25)

And I wore them this afternoon! ;)

5. pairs of shorts (at least 2) - (I already bought one last Aug31 together with 2 tops, so to keep my promise to myself, I need to buy one more)

6. skirt (done on Feb01)

7. TV rack (done on Apr30)

8. office table (to replace our PC table) (I don’t think I’ll be needing this for now; we already had an alternative)

9. computer monitor (to replace the one I am using now which is having near death experience)

Let’s Get Fishy-cal!

Posted by: abelle   in the life of an ordinary earthling

My husband and his friends left for Dammam last Thursday and stayed there until yesterday. They went fishing!

Whoa!

So cute ;)

and sexy ;)

He was trying to send me these pics via MMS but for some reason, I can’t download them and they didn’t get through . . . . .

I love u so much, Pa!

I really enjoy bloghopping. Any one of you remembers my post about the benefits of bloghopping? I like seeing the works of some bloggers who are into scrapbooking, blog template making, cooking, photography and crafts. I’m not a gifted child like them. And my only talent is to admire these people and drool over their arts. And just by looking at their wonderful works, I can see how much love they put in what they do. No, I don’t sew, nor do I cook. I don’t wear jewelry, make up and perfume, much more make one. And if only I were as talented as they are, then I would have made my own template . . . . .

This is how sites like Digg, Stumble Upon, Blogsvine and the likes help bloggers. They connect other bloggers to you and you to them. The problem is, sometimes, people comment on the posts or links you put in those sites, not on your blog itself. Who goes to check if they have new comments in there, anyway? But that’s a different story . . . . .

I’m not a big Entrecard fan but it definitely opened up more doors for me. I’m currently using it when bloghopping. I drop cards and get to read other blogs as well. (So who says you can’t do two things at the same time? ;) ). And while sitting in my oh so awesome chair, I get to travel from here to other places in Metro Manila to other parts of the Philippines, to the US, India, UK, Malaysia and many other countries and meet some nice people along the way. What a fun ride!

But the thing is, no matter how fun the traveling is, I still come across some obstacles. Like this one:

It pops out when I get to some sites and I don’t know why. This keeps me from going back to their blogs and read.  What pisses me more off is that sometimes it pops out when I’m in the middle of reading something, while sometimes it shows 5seconds or less after clicking a link.  Do you ever experience this?  And have you done something about it yet?

100 Days To Go Before Christmas!

Posted by: abelle   in the blogging world

. . . . . and I’m thinking of putting up some ad spaces for my fellow bloggers for their 125X125 buttons.

. . . . . and their ads will run for a week.

. . . . . and I’m doing this until the end of this year, or until supplies (of bloggers who want to advertise) last.

. . . . . and these earthlings will just have to let me know that they are interested by simply leaving a message in the comment section or by using the Contact Form.

. . . . . and these ad spaces are FREE!

How’s that, people?  Now who wants to go first?  ;)

NOTE:  I will reply to the email addresses you provide in the comment section and the Contact Form.  So kindly send a valid email address so I can reply to your requests immediately.  A total of 5 ads will be featured each week and reservation is on a first come first serve basis. Thanks! ;)
